the 14th African Union Summit kicks off in Addis Ababa

Under the title “Information and Communication Technologies in Africa (ICT) in Africa: Challenges and Prospects for Development” the events of 14 African Union Summit began on Sunday 31 January for three days in Addis Ababa.

The Summit discussed the African disputes, the latest development in Sudan and Darfur and the civil war in Somalia. The Summit’s Agenda highlighted several issues that present challenges to the continent including the transformation of African Union Commission into the African Union Authority (AUA). It also tackled the convening of the next Arab African Summit in Libya, at the end of 2010, and the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting to be hosted by Egypt in March 2010, to finalize the substantive and the organizational preparations for the Summit.
