EU disburses 40 million Euros in support of Jordan

As part of its ongoing efforts to build and maintain its partnership with Jordan, the EU has disbursed over € 40 million (US$53 million) to support several ongoing local programmes and initiatives in a variety of fields since December.

In a statement released yesterday, the EU Delegation to Jordan said the funding includes 19 million euros to support the Kingdom's education reform initiative, 10 million euros for the Public Finance Reform Programme, 9 million euros towards the Transport And Trade Facilitation Programme, and a final payment to the Poverty Alleviation through Local Development Programme, in addition to other EU assistance for Jordan.

"The EU is very pleased with the progress of its projects with Jordanian partners," Patrick Renauld, head of the EU Delegation to Jordan, said in the statement.

"We are constantly looking for ways to support local efforts that respond to the needs of the average Jordanian citizen, enhance Jordan's capacity to participate in the global marketplace and improve living conditions for all."

Following the U.S and Japan, EU is one of the biggest donors of aid to Jordan.
