Arab food security gap hits $ 1 billion – Report


According to a report issued by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Sudan and prepared by Abdul Latif Al-Ajami, Under-Secretary Ministry of Agriculture in Sudan, the food gab in the Arab world reached about $ 20 billion. This gab is divided as follows: grains 50 %, wheat 22 %, maize 10 %, rice 9 %, barley 8%, meat 11%, dairy products 15% and legumes 2.3 %.

Dr. Al-Ajaimy outlined that this gap is widening every year due to the skyrocketing of prices and inflation rates in some Arab States.  

Al-Ajaimy unveiled that the size of the population living food security problem in the world are ranging between 800 to billion people and that the Sudanese exports from the agricultural sector are ranging between 600 to 650 million dollars, calling on the State to give due attention to the strategic reserves, along with expansion in the production of oilseeds.
