"Foras International" celebrates Khartoum Regional Office Inauguration

H.E Sheikh Saleh Kamel, President of Islamic Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has officially inaugurated the office of Foras Sudan  – one of the regional companies of International Foras, the executive arm of ICCI- on Friday January 15, 2009, at the headquarters of Sudan Foras Company in Al-Fateh Tower in Khartoum.   

The opening ceremony was attended by Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Investment, the Minister Ahmed Shawer, Kuwaiti Ambassador, Saudi charge of affairs, and a number of businessmen. Sheikh Saleh Kamel cut the inauguration ribbon and then delivered speech on this occasion, expressing his sincere thanks to H.E the Minister and said the facilities provided by the Government of Sudan which paved the way to the establishment of Foras Sudan would contribute to setting up many projects in line with the development policy of the Republic aimed at achieving sustainable and balanced development, and ensure raising the living standard of the Sudanese people.

“We seek to make the office of Foras Sudan a hub for the projects that match the resources of the State”, His Excellency said, adding “the importance of Foras Sudan lies in being the first international investment center of its kind in the region.”

Dr. Hatem Moukhtar, Foras Chief Executive and ICCI Secretariat General for Projects gave a speech saying “the mega projects carried out by Foras Sudan which will begin by the launch of Fayhaa integrated agricultural project in the state of Sennar with over $ 200 million, will enhance the economic growth and agricultural production.”

“Foras International Investment Company had been established upon a wise resolution taken by the leadership of ICCI, represented in implementing the Ten-Year Work Plan in collaboration with the partnership of IDB in a high level of transparency in management, targeting establishment of projects with an economic return for the operation of labor. It is also aimed at supporting markets and providing welfare for Muslim community. ” he added 

The objective of Foras International Investment Company is to explore the investment opportunities in the OIC member States according to clear strategy aiming achieving the desired development which lead them to the stage of self-sufficiency. It currently works in a number of African countries such as Sudan, Mali, Senegal, Benin and Uganda and it prepares to work in Nigeria and Mauritania.
 
Foras focuses on four sectors namely: agriculture, infrastructure, energy and real estate especially housing for people of limited income
